Building Links vs Getting Clicks

Now that my SEO site is up, I'm not sure what strategies I'm going to employ. I'm not the leading SEO expert in the field by any means, and ranking high on google with a term like "SEO Strategies" can cost up to $4.32 per click. I have up to 15,000 directories at my disposal and will be submitting SEO Time to about 50+ per day. Also. with my new account at TextLinks I've been given 25 free backlinks on my choice of over 5,000 different niche blogs. It looks like my strategy with this one isn't as much as link buildling as it is getting click throughs. Now I have to think of some really enticing link anchors...

What are some strategies you other challengers have employed?
